Gene R. Baldwin

Gene Baldwin has more than 25 years of interim management and advisory experience. He is a corporate leader with a well-established reputation for his ability to assess, develop and implement operational and financial improvement initiatives that enhance enterprise value for stakeholders. He has successfully served as CEO, CFO and president, and acted as an advisor for numerous companies in many industries, including:

Mr. Baldwin has served in various senior-executive roles, managing companies through complex operational and financial restructurings as well as advising a multitude of companies though complex out-of-court and Chapter 11 restructurings. His leadership and expertise have enabled companies to develop and implement effective restructuring plans, improve efficiencies, reduce costs and significantly improving operating results.

In one of his significant interim management engagements, Mr. Baldwin served as president and chief restructuring officer (CRO) of a 350-unit franchised quick-service restaurant chain with total system sales of nearly $400 million. In this role, he implemented more than $6 million in annual cost reductions, increased comparable store sales, reduced senior debt, improved liquidity and enhanced stakeholder communications. Over a three-month period, these actions led to an increase in EBITDA from a projected $7 million to over $10 million, with EBITDA projected at $14 million for the following year.

Additional notable engagements include:

  • Interim CFO for a $300 million public restaurant chain
  • Financial advisor to a 130 unit casual dining chain, where he collaborated with the management team to develop the business plan and facilitated the restructuring of senior debt as well as subordinated debt and equity
  • CFO and a member of the board of directors for a $200 million oil, gas and real estate company, where he was responsible for all financial functions, including cash management and financial reporting
  • Representative advisory engagements include a $1.8 billion construction company, a $250 million computer manufacturer, a $150 million restaurant chain, a $400 million retail grocer and a 125-unit restaurant chain.
  • CRO for $180 million snack food manufacturer and distributor, CFO for a $100 million manufacturer of electrical transformers and COO for a 91-unit cafeteria chain

Mr. Baldwin has been awarded the Certified Turnaround Professional designation from the Turnaround Management Association. He is a Certified Public Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pittsburgh State University. He is a frequent speaker at restaurant finance conferences and is the author of several articles about the operational and financial management of multi-unit retail businesses.
