John Calabrese specializes in debt restructuring and crisis management, enabling underperforming companies to sustain operations short-term, while positioning them for long-term profitability. With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Calabrese is an accomplished financial advisor and restructuring manager. He has worked with companies in a variety of industries, including:

Mr. Calabrese has advised a number of companies operating in Chapter 11 proceedings.  He has served in management roles including interim chief executive officer (CEO), interim chief financial officer (CFO) and interim chief restructuring officer (CRO).  For six years he managed underperforming commercial loan relationships for one of the largest commercial banks in the United States, where he worked with companies on both in and out-of-court restructurings in a wide range of industries.

Some of his noteworthy engagements include:

• CRO for a $600 million financial services company in Chapter 11 proceedings, where he worked with the management team to restructure debt and conduct a sale process to ensure the highest value, which resulted in a significant return to stakeholders
• Financial advisor for an $800 million trucking company,where he developed alignment of the restructuring goals between the lenders and management team, which enabled the company to refinance nearly 100% of its debt
• CRO of a printing equipment company in Chapter 11, where his efforts allowed the company to complete a strategic asset sale, preventing a possible liquidation and yielding a 100% return to the senior lender
• Interim CEO for an electronic and paper legal discovery company during a transition to new ownership, where he also developed and implemented a restructuring plan that significantly reduced the fixed costs of the company
• Interim CFO for an aircraft manufacturer where he was involved in renegotiating the senior credit facility, the transition to a new accounting staff and the implementation of more structured sales and operations procedures.
• State court receiver for a financial services company through the sale of its assets as a going-concern

Mr. Calabrese holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
