John Calabrese specializes in debt restructuring and crisis management, enabling underperforming companies to sustain operations short-term, while positioning them for long-term profitability. With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Calabrese is an accomplished financial advisor and restructuring manager. He has worked with companies in a variety of industries, including:

Mr. Calabrese has advised a number of companies operating in Chapter 11 proceedings.  He managed the turnaround of a non-profit organization, through expense reduction and strategic reorganization of service delivery.  For six years he managed underperforming commercial loan relationships for one of the largest commercial banks in the United States, where he worked with companies both in and out-of-court restructurings in a wide range of industries.

Some of his noteworthy engagements include:

• Chief restructuring officer (CRO) for a financial services company in Chapter 11, where he worked with the management team to restructure debt and conduct a sale process to ensure the highest value, which resulted in a significant return to stakeholders
• Financial advisor for an $800 million trucking company, where he developed alignment between the lenders and management team of the restructuring goals, which enabled the company to refinance nearly 100% of its debt
• CRO of a printing equipment company in Chapter 11, where his efforts allowed the company to complete a strategic asset sale, preventing a possible liquidation and yielding a 100% return to the senior lender
• Financial advisor for a $200 million furniture manufacturer and retailer, where he was active in the development of a restructuring plan that led to significant cost reductions and a successful debt recapitalization
• State court receiver for a financial services company through the sale of its assets as a going-concern
• Interim CEO for an electronic and paper legal discovery company during a transition to new ownership, where he also developed and implemented a restructuring plan that significantly reduced the fixed costs of the company

Mr. Calabrese holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
