Tom O'Donoghue's experience as turnaround manager, financial advisor and investor with different types of financially challenged businesses helps him provide a unique perspective on the process of revitalizing a company. His varied roles allow him to bring deep knowledge and perspective to the development and implementation of effective turnaround business plans. Mr. O'Donoghue's career in the turnaround and restructuring field began in 1986. Over a five-year period with a national consulting firm, his engagements included department store chains, women's apparel (retail and manufacturing), an office supplies catalog and retailer, bridge construction, window manufacturing, auto parts suppliers and plumbing/heating distributors. With those companies, his role was primarily as financial advisor to the companies and/or their boards of directors.
Additionally, Mr. O'Donoghue was senior vice president of the restructuring loan group of Heller Financial and then principal of Heller Investments, an equity investment group within Heller Financial. Portfolio companies included a global abrasives manufacturer, a defense contractor, a truck suspension manufacturer, a media conglomerate (TV and radio), a Tier 1 automotive components manufacturer, a jewelry retailer, a textile manufacturer, a window fashions manufacturer and leasing companies. In all of these, his role was to influence the rehabilitation of the companies to profitability.
In 1996 Mr. O'Donoghue returned to providing turnaround consulting and interim management services to companies. Since that time, his engagements have included assignments with companies in industries as varied as golf products, automotive supplies, internet services, an ice cream cone company, a frozen bread and cookie dough company, a custom packaging equipment manufacturer, children's books printers, a cross-border manufacturer of appliance parts, women's specialty retailers, a medical book distributor and an acute-care and teaching hospital. He has given expert testimony on financing, he held the position of U.S. Justice Department trustee for anti-trust matters and he has served as chief restructuring officer, CFO or CEO for various clients.
Prior to his experience in the turnaround and restructuring advisory field, Mr. O'Donoghue advanced to CFO of a national specialty architectural products firm. Its growth and decline led to a passion for turnaround and restructuring services. In addition, Mr. O'Donoghue has served as a director for a number of companies and currently serves on the board of a major automotive components supplier.
Mr. O'Donoghue has been an active member of the Turnaround Management Association since its inception and holds a Certified Turnaround Practitioner designation. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame and he holds a CPA designation.
