Kevin R. Smith, Managing Director

Kevin Smith has 20 years of experience in operations management, consulting and interim-executive management. He has worked with more than 40 companies, focusing across a broad range of improvement areas such as strategic planning, marketing and sales, operations improvement, product development, due diligence and financial restructuring. His industry experience includes:

Mr. Smith has assisted a privately-held sleep products company to assess the viability of the company after a year of significant losses; he was subsequently retained as chief restructuring officer, where he developed and implemented improvement projects that yielded an anticipated increase in revenue of $13 million for 2006.

In a prior engagement, Mr. Smith consulted with the management team of a $135 million recycler of automotive parts, which had lost approximately $8.5 million in EBITDA over the prior 12 months. Mr. Smith and his team developed a turnaround plan for the business that returned the company to break-even. Supported by the team's work, the company was sold to a strategic buyer, with full recovery to stakeholders.

Some other recent engagements include:

  • Advisor to the executive staff and board of directors of a publicly-held $100 million company on the divestiture of four operating units, where he built and deployed a forward-looking cash-management process across all divisions to help ensure the company maintained adequate liquidity throughout the divestiture process
  • Interim COO for a $100 million communications company providing wireless solutions and equipment to the commercial sector; his broad responsibilities included streamlining the supply chain, improving IT infrastructure and supporting operations in 28 branches; also built a national accounts team, bringing in more than $10 million in the first year

Previously, he worked for seven years with the George Group, Inc., where he was vice president of an emerging practice and was responsible for strategic assessments and implementations for dozens of companies across a variety of industries. Prior to his work in consulting, Mr. Smith spent seven years in the oil and gas and aerospace industries. He held roles in project management, product line management and engineering. Mr. Smith earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Texas A&M University.
